The species is distinguished from others in the O. persa species group by the following characters: pores in the supraorbital canal 8-9; caudal-fin base with two distinct black blotches; pelvic axillary lobe rudimentary and shallow; flank with 6-10 irregularly shaped bars; deep head, body, and caudal peduncle .Cross section: oval.
