Facultative air-breathing in the genus ; Inhabits large rivers as well as small tributaries. Prefers well-vegetated stream margins with soft mud bottom. Feeds on insects, crustaceans and fishes . Aquarium conditions: pH=7.2, H=10, 26°C water temperature, carnivore, egg layer, needs plant and rock cover, not easy for beginning aquarists .
