Adults inhabit clear to turbid vegetated lakes, swamps, oxbows, sluggish streams of all sizes . They feed on insect larvae, filamentous algae and microcrustacea . Spawning occurs underneath flat rocks, in cavities; nest spawner . Migratory behaviour is undetermined .
