Duck-billed eel
📖 Overview
Duck-billed eel (Nettastoma parviceps) is a ray-finned fish of the family Nettastomatidae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in deep-water environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 82 cm. It occurs at depths between 60 and 1190 metres. With a trophic level of 3.5, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms. It is assessed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Vertebrae: 230. SO5 pore normally absent. Lateral line pores 49-58. Median vomerine teeth not enlarged. Posterior nostril above posterodorsal corner of eye. Other characteristics: Color gray; vertical fins black-edged; snout gray-black; iris and opercular regions silver.: eel-like.
