Neobathyclupea Melanoptera (Neobathyclupea melanoptera), first described by Prokofiev, Gon & Psomadakis, 2016 is a medium-sized fish. Adults typically reach 30.20 cm in maximum length. It inhabits marine coastal and open-ocean environments. Recorded depth range: 767 to 1120 metres. It occurs in Tropical waters. It feeds on a mix of small fish and invertebrates as a mid-level predator.

Anal soft rays: 26 - 27. This species is disttinguished by the following characters: head length 2.6 times in SL; mouth cavity uniformly black; snout is longer than orbit; dorsal rayed pterygiophore pattern /1/1/1/1+1/1/1+1/1/; anal-fin rays 26-27; gill-rakers on first gill arch 26-27; large pseudobranch (29-30 elements), all fins black .Cross section: compressed.
