📖 Overview
Adults inhabit upper portions of outer reef slopes . Benthopelagic . Thay hover above the bottom, facing the current to feed on zooplankton, copepods, and crustacean larvae. Several individuals may share the same hole (especially juveniles). They flick their pennant-like first dorsal fin back and forth as a habit . Minimum depth reported taken from Ref. 128797. Monogamous .

Marine; reef-associated; non-migratory ; depth range 0 - 70 m , usually 6 - 28 m . Tropical; 22°C - 28°C ; 31°N - 28°S, 32°E - 128°W East Africa to the Hawaiian, Marquesan and Pitcairn islands, north to the Ryukyu Islands, south to New Caledonia and the Austral Islands; throughout Micronesia.
