Inhabit clear, gravelly flowing pools and runs of creeks and small to medium rivers ; also found in streams, lakes and reservoirs . Juveniles feed on small crustaceans and midge larvae while adults eat insects, larger crustaceans, frogs, worms, grubs and small fish .
