Melanorivulus Kunzei (Melanorivulus kunzei), first described by Costa, 2012 is a tiny fish in the family Rivulidae (order Cyprinodontiformes). Adults typically reach 3.30 cm in maximum length. It inhabits freshwater systems including rivers, streams, and lakes. It occurs in Tropical waters. It is broadly omnivorous, taking invertebrates, plant matter, and detritus. On the IUCN Red List, it is classified as Vulnerable.The species is kept in the aquarium hobby. Care requirements and behaviour align broadly with other Rivulidae kept in the hobby.

Distinguished from all other species of Melanorivulus, except M. kayapo, by having a colour pattern of flank in males consisting of irregular horizontal rows of red dots arranged to form a red reticulate pattern on the posterior part of flank, including canal peduncle region (vs. never a similar colour pattern; usually oblique red bars on the flank, reticulated areas when present are symmetrical and derived from overlapping bars).
