📖 Overview

Yellow triangular batfish (Malthopsis lutea) is a ray-finned fish of the family Ogcocephalidae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in deep-water environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 10 cm. It occurs at depths between 100 and 500 metres. With a trophic level of 3.3, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms. It is assessed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Dorsal soft rays (total): 5; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 4. This species is characterized by the following: subopercular buckler dull, with many small blunt spinelets at its tip; the ventral surface is covered with small- to mid-bucklers, totally naked between these bucklers; relatively short and blunt rostrum, directed upward; principal bucklers on dorsal surface relatively small and low; dorsal surface with few brown rings .: other (see remarks); Cross section: flattened.
