A rare , oceanic, mesopelagic species. Occasionally stranded in shallow water . Capable of discharging a black ink from an ink-sac in the cloaca when alarmed. Adults feed on fishes (anchovies) and squids . Oviparous, with planktonic eggs and larvae . Found in stomachs of tunas .
