This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: three dark midlateral blotches on the body; 12 scale rows around caudal peduncle; a terminal mouth (mouth cleft longitudinally aligned with ventral border of eye) in specimens larger than 100 mm SL; body pale brown to silver and slightly yellow to hyaline fins in live specimens .: elongated; Cross section: oval.
