📖 Overview
Banded seaperch (Hypoplectrodes nigroruber), first described by Cuvier, 1828 is a medium-sized fish in the family Anthiadidae (order Perciformes). Adults typically reach 30.00 cm in maximum length. It inhabits marine coastal and open-ocean environments. It occurs in Temperate waters. Diet is predominantly piscivorous, targeting other fish and larger prey. The species largely solitary in behaviour. On the IUCN Red List, it is classified as Least Concern.The species is important as a food fish and considered a sustainable seafood option under current management. As a member of the Anthiadidae, it shares life-history and morphological traits with its relatives in the group.

Dorsal spines (total): 10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 16 - 18; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 8. Deep red to brown or yellowish grey above, white below, with four darker red to black vertical bands over posterior half of body and fifth short band from each opercle to dorsal fin origin; black blotch just below lateral line in band under middle dorsal fin spines; upper parts of head and body densely speckled with irregular dark spots; free margin of opercles yellow; fin rays spotted .: fusiform / normal.
