The following characters separate this species from its congeners in Black and Caspian Sea basins: breast naked between pectoral bases; 12-14 scale rows around the caudal peduncle; barbel reaching between middle of eye and posterior eye margin; interorbital area flat; snout length 0.9-1.2 times in postorbital distance; head length 26-32% SL; head depth 16-18% SL at nape, 46-53% HL at eye; body depth 22-25% SL; head width 16-19% SL, 59-69% HL; eye diameter 5-6% SL, 2.8-3.4 times in head depth, 1.3-1.8 times in interorbital distance (at 7-10 cm SL); caudal peduncle depth 36-44% HL; and midlateral blotches contrasted, with sharp edges .: elongated.
