Shorttail chub (Gila brevicauda), first described by Norris, Fischer & Minckley, 2003 is a small fish in the family Cyprinidae (order Cypriniformes). Adults typically reach 12.90 cm in maximum length. It inhabits freshwater systems including rivers, streams, and lakes. It occurs in Tropical waters. It feeds primarily on plankton, plant material, and detritus. On the IUCN Red List, it is classified as Data Deficient.The species is kept in the aquarium hobby. Care requirements and behaviour align broadly with other Cyprinidae kept in the hobby.

Dorsal soft rays (total): 8 - 9; Anal soft rays: 7 - 9. Darkly pigmented (mottled flanks) than congeners in the adjacent basins. Caudal fin abbreviate, nearly always shorter than the caudal peduncle .: elongated; Cross section: oval.
