West Australian lanternshark (Etmopterus westraliensis) is a ray-finned fish of the family Etmopteridae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters. This species can reach a maximum total length of 4.1 cm. It occurs at depths between 362 and 610 metres. With a trophic level of 3.3, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms.

🐟 Physical Description

This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: hook-like denticles; dorsal fins covered with denticles (except in juveniles); origin of the flank-marking base well anterior to the second dorsal-fin origin; underside of snout with a reversed ‘W’-shaped naked area; length of the ventral portion of caudal-base marking much longer than its width; and caudal-base marking 9.5%-10.0% TL, with tip tapering .: elongated.
