Obscurae snailfish (Elassodiscus obscurus) is a ray-finned fish of the family Liparidae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in deep-water environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 28.6 cm. It occurs at depths between 161 and 1773 metres. With a trophic level of 3.6, it is a mid-level predator.
Dorsal soft rays (total): 69 - 73; Anal soft rays: 63 - 68; Vertebrae: 72 - 80. Two suprabranchial pores. Teeth simple, long, slightly convex rearward. Lower lobe of the pectoral fin long, contained 3-3.5 times in SL. Pectoral fin with a large notch; upper lobe is short, and does not reach to the origin of the anal fin. The rays of the lower lobe are approximately twice as long as those of the upper, reaching origin of the anal fin.
