Adults occur solitary on sheltered reefs with rich coral growth . Oviparous. Eggs are demersal and adhesive , and are attached to the substrate via a filamentous, adhesive pad or pedestal . Larvae are planktonic, often found in shallow, coastal waters .
Very similar to Ecsenius trilineatus in having white spots and thin dark lines. In E. schroederi there are two mid-lateral close together with a series of white spots between them .: elongated.
