Are closely related to Ecsenius yaeyamaensis and look most similar to E. stictus from the Great Barrier Reef . Oviparous. Eggs are demersal and adhesive , and are attached to the substrate via a filamentous, adhesive pad or pedestal . Larvae are planktonic, often found in shallow, coastal waters . Minimum depth of 5 m reported from Ref. 90102.
Instead of having pale spots in the body, E. stictus and E. polystictus have small black spots .: fusiform / normal.
