📖 Overview
Diaphus Trachops (Diaphus trachops) is a ray-finned fish of the family Myctophidae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in deep-water environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 6.4 cm. It occurs at depths between 100 and 686 metres. With a trophic level of 3.1, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms. It is assessed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Dorsal soft rays (total): 14; Anal soft rays: 14 - 16; Vertebrae: 34 - 35. Surface of lower orbital margin uneven, caused by the small domed intrusions of pigmented tissue covering the minute, probably luminous, dots anterior to Vn: elongated; Cross section: compressed.
