Ocellated tonguesole (Cynoglossus quadriocellatus) is a ray-finned fish of the family Cynoglossidae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in benthic environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 19.1 cm. It occurs at depths between 0 and 48 metres. With a trophic level of 3.4, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms. It is assessed as Data Deficient on the IUCN Red List.

🐟 Physical Description

Dorsal soft rays (total): 96 - 112; Anal soft rays: 88 - 101; Vertebrae: 40 - 44. This species is distinguished by the following characters: snout bluntly rounded; head length 19-28% of SL, snout length 4-8% of SL; eyes are not contiguous; nostrils 2; rostral hook not extending to below the eye; lateral lines on eyed side three, on blind side one; mid-lateral line scales 73-88; scales between dorsal and mid-lateral lines 11-14; scales on both eyed and blind sides ctenoid; D 96-112; A 88-101; caudal-fin rays 10; vertebrae 8 + 40-44; two ocelli on tail .Cross section: flattened.
