Lives in creeks and rapids where the vegetation is poor, the water is clear and well-oxygenated and shallow (less than 1 m), with sandy to rocky substrate. Found together with Characidium fasciadorsale, Imparfinis minutus, Corydoras guianensis and specially Harttia surinamensis .
