📖 Overview
Splendid spined loach (Cobitis splendens), first described by Ekmekçi & Nalbant, 1998 is a small fish in the family Cobitidae (order Cypriniformes). Adults typically reach 10.50 cm in maximum length. It inhabits freshwater systems including rivers, streams, and lakes. Recorded depth range: 0 to 200 metres. It occurs in Temperate waters. It is broadly omnivorous, taking invertebrates, plant matter, and detritus. On the IUCN Red List, it is classified as Critically Endangered.The species is a species of conservation concern.

🐟 Physical Description
Dorsal spines (total): 3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7; Anal spines: 2 - 3; Anal soft rays: 5. With all four of Gambetta's pigmentary zones, third zone is reduced. Jet black spot of the upper part of caudal base large. Head relatively short, eyes placed in middle. Mouth arched with three pairs of short barbels. Mental lobes large, not pointed. Unusual color pattern.: elongated.
