A short-lived species which occurs in highland and lowland water courses with little current. Is threatened due to pollution and habitat destruction . Max. length (Juan Antonio Delgado Saez, pers. Comm. 1997). Oviparous, possibly with distinct pairing during breeding similar to congeners .
