📖 Overview
Characidium Xanthopterum (Characidium xanthopterum) is a ray-finned fish of the family Crenuchidae. It inhabits freshwater waters. This species can reach a maximum total length of 4.7 cm. With a trophic level of 3.4, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms. It is assessed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

🐟 Physical Description
Dorsal soft rays (total): 10 - 12; Anal soft rays: 8 - 9; Vertebrae: 32 - 33. Distinguished from other species of genus Characidium by the bright yellow fin coloration, and by the absence of conspicuous dark bars along the sides of body in individuals larger than 3.5 cm SL (vs. dark bars or marks present on the sides of the body in specimens of all sizes in the remaining species of Characidium) .
