This species can reach a maximum total length of 4.6 cm. With a trophic level of 3.1, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms.

This species is distinguished by the following characters: absence of chromatophores on abdominal part of trunk; dotted chromatophores widely scattered over latter half of tail; scales on cheek absent; shaft of opercle is directed downward and distinctly shorter than opercle; indistinct mandibular canal organs .: elongated.
