Bathylagus Niger (Bathylagus niger) is a ray-finned fish of the family Bathylagidae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters in deep-water environments. This species can reach a maximum total length of 14.1 cm. It occurs at depths between 200 and 1560 metres. With a trophic level of 3.2, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms.

Diagnosis: Gill rakers 23-30 (usually 26-27); anal fin rays 20-23; dorsal fin rays 10-12; scale pockets in the lateral line 40-42; vertebrae45-48 (usually 46-47); pyloric caeca 4-7 (usually 5-6); greatest body depth in mature specimens 19-22% SL, with average-sized head 21-23% SL .: elongated.
