📖 Overview

Occurs in a spring that is highly degraded and used for recreation. The spring has growing aquatic plants of the genus Ceratophyllum and substrate composed mainly of sand and gravel with many boulders at athe bottom of the pool and mud in the stream. Other fish species found in the spring include the native goodeids Girardinichthys multiradiatus and Goodea atripinnis, and the introduced cichlid Oreochromis sp. and the poeciliids Poecilia reticulata and Heterandria bimaculata .

🐟 Physical Description

Dorsal spines (total): 2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7 - 8; Anal spines: 1 - 2; Anal soft rays: 6 - 7. Can be identified by having the following combination of characters: pelvic fin with 7 branched rays, rarely 8; scales in transverse series 9, rarely 8; and a dark, narrow lateral stripe runs from around the pectoral fin to the origin of the caudal peduncle .
