This small-sized slender eel is distinguished from all its congeners by the following set of characters: dorsal-fin origin is behind the pectoral-fin insertion; pre-anal length 46.0-47.2% of TL; smaller eye, 20.7-21.1% HL, smaller interorbital distance, 8.9-10.7% HL; teeth on jaw small, pointed, intermaxillary and vomerine teeth continuous, short vomerine tooth patch; SO canal with 6 pores; ST canal with 3 pores; pre-dorsal vertebrae 10 (10); pre-anal vertebrae 45 (45); total vertebrae 116 (118). Colouration: no distinct bands on the head, pre-opercle whitish .Cross section: circular.
