Ornamental Fish Breeding

Commercial breeding of aquarium fish for the ornamental trade - a $15 billion global industry led by Singapore, Israel, and the US.

Sustainability: ★★★★☆ Scale: Small farm Setup: $5,000+

📖 Overview

The aquarium industry produces some of the most genetically diverse fish stocks on the planet. Neon tetras, guppies, mollies, goldfish, koi, and now marine species like clownfish are commercially bred in industrial hatcheries. Singapore is the global export center. Israeli koi farms produce show-quality specimens. US and European hatcheries increasingly produce captive-bred marine ornamentals (clownfish, seahorses, dottybacks) - reducing pressure on wild reefs.
