Antigonia Ovalis (Antigonia ovalis) is a ray-finned fish of the family Antigoniidae. It inhabits marine (saltwater) waters. This species can reach a maximum total length of 5.6 cm. It occurs at depths between 100 and 235 metres. With a trophic level of 2.9, it is a low-level carnivore, feeding on invertebrates and small organisms.

🐟 Physical Description

Dorsal spines (total): 8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 31 - 33; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 29 - 31. Distinguished by the having the following characters: upper and lower body profiles without pronounced angles, upper anterior profile almost straight; body shape oval, moderately deep; scales with shallow posterior ridge, bearing along the edge short ctenias; head length 2.5 times in SL; mouth slit subvertical; lips thin; descending part of praemaxillare straight; orbit diameter 2.6-2.9 times in HL; gill rakers 18-20; dorsal fin-rays VIII 31-33 and anal fin-rays III 29-31 .: short and / or deep; Cross section: oval.
