This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: large hyaline spot on the proximal third of each caudal-fin lobe; interorbital distance (30-34% HL); pelvic fin just reaching anal-fin origin when adpressed (14-18% SL); absence of serrae on the posterior margin of the pectoral-fin spine; and color pattern of pale, irregular oblique bands that encircle a dark brown body : elongated; Cross section: oval.
